Day Two Hundred and Eighty-Nine - Reboot

Within the last year Joseph and I both upgraded our computers. I have my shiny new red laptop [yes, it is much talked about] and Joseph has his too cool for school black with the bright blue lights regular computer. But what to do with the old computers, keyboards, mice, etc? E-waste is a huge problem - computers, mobile phones, TVs, etc. as people tend to be upgrading things so much more these days because of changing technology and relatively affordable prices [it anyone wants to purchase me an extremely affordable flat screen TV that would be cool]. The thing is that electronics take roughly 8.3 billion years to biodegrade [yes, all of my statistics are totally accurate as Joseph works in the environmental industry]. And even then, they don't really biodegrade and their components leech out all sorts of nasty things into the earth.

A while back my friend Lisa told me about this charitable organization, Sky's The Limit, that takes in older computers and gives them away to kids/families that need them. Neat-o! The only problem-o is that while the drop-off location is within walking distance of my house, I can't walk very far carrying computers and I don't have access to a car/driver's license. However, Joseph's parents rented a car [actually some huge orange SUV/van type of monstrosity, speaking of environmental consciousness] for the past two days so today I donated/recycled my old computer to charity. I have been working very diligently @ lessening the clutter in my life and clearing out two computers and all their related accessories has made a huge difference in the bedroom. I struggle with keeping things, but I'm also really conscious of the fact that I'm happier when I'm more minimal and the fact that keeping things could eventually make me crazy. We even got a tax credit!

[i can give you the name/place of where we recycled our stuff, but if you don't live here it's not much use. however, similar facilities are popping up everywhere, so please use your google-fu next time you have e-waste of any kind. for the country dwellers - save up e-waste and it bring it with you on your next trip to the big city.]
