I used to love, love, LOVE New Year's when I was younger. I liked it more than xmas as it gave me the opportunity to stay up late, eat snack foods, wear something shiny, maybe sneak some booze...and feel terribly adult. That was always important to me [funny now since I'm currently trying to feel less adult with each passing day]. I don't really "do" New Years anymore - Joseph and I have spent the last three in front of the TV with Anderson Cooper and an assortment of bad films [From Justin to Kelly! A modern classic!].
This year I decided to do something different as I'm hoping for a really and truly excellent 2008 so I combined as many New Years traditions from around the world as possible. I want lots of luck and good things! Here's the rundown.
From Ecuador and Mexico and Spain: I ate twelve grapes just before midnight - making a wish on each one.
From Ecuador and Mexico: I wore yellow underwear - said to attract positive energies for the new year.
From Ecuador and Mexico: I walked around the block with my suitcase - said to bring the person the journey of their dreams.
From France and Spain: I drank moderately priced champagne [courtesy of Brett and actually a cava].
From the US: I watched the ball drop in Times Square.
From Philippines: I ate circular food [a pie] - circles attract money and fortune.
Happy 2008 everyone!
