I don't really get the appeal of spring cleaning. I mean, spring is a lovely time of year - birds are singing, the sun is shining and all of that jazz - so why not...I dunno - GO OUTSIDE and enjoy it? Wouldn't that be better than inhaling bleach fumes and working yourself silly inside? Spring seems to be a very short season in these parts - a brief period of time in between the insane numbing coldness of winter and the insane blistering heat of summer. I will be able to enjoy spring as I'm doing my spring cleaning right now [it's seriously beyond cold out there and more snow than what Toronto has seen in decades so no, I'm not going out there].
Today - in one of my traditional fits of cleaning I completely gutted and cleaned the refrigerator. I have really never done this before [go on and judge me, but I never claimed to be an adult]. There have been many times when the fridge becomes a "clutter fridge" and I will toss out everything that is ancient or I can't deal with washing up due to grossness. I will spot clean the fridge when something bad happens. But this was brand new. I removed everything - I mean, really everything - even things that I thought couldn't be removed and I scrubbed it down twice - once with scrubbers and once with a soft cloth. Lots of chemicals were involved and I now have a nasty rash and a very sore knee. I actually had to take some of the fridge parts into the shower to get hosed down.
The reason I haven't done this before - aside from laziness - is that the fridge scares me a little. Ever since the summer when I lived with Seth and our fridge broke twice [or three times?] I'm freaked out that the fridge is going to die on me. My mum probably warned me not to stand in front of an open fridge for risk of burning out the motor [however, I know she fully cleaned ours like...every other week - she is a cleaning fanatic - this apple falls far from the tree]. But the fridge is still happily humming away [our old fridge made Law & Order sounds]. I'm sad that the "clean fridge smell" doesn't stick around, though.
