It seems to be becoming something of a tradition [that is to say that it's happened two weeks in a row] - me watching some film/actor I have sworn to never watch in an attempt to open up my mind. Most of these mind-opening things aren't at all cultural, but stem from my own irrational dislike for various Hollywood stars and popular films. Also, today has been a rough day as we are currently entirely snowed under and are still experiencing the snowstorm. I have also been doing xmas baking all weekend and now I have a migraine. So while I'm not a fan of me using "hey! I watched a movie!" as my ET of the day...here we go...
Tonight I gave Tom Cruise another chance and I watched War of the Worlds. I even gave up Battlestar to watch it [don't worry - it's on tape!], so that should count for something. Much like The Matrix [well, it's nothing like The Matrix, actually] I was super disappointed. Although, it's not entirely Tom Cruise's fault - he was mostly fine in this movie [as always, I find his acting to be rather innocuous, but nothing spectacular]. Lots of questionable acting choices, directorial choices...stupid dialogue. But it all worked out in the finish spectacular [if not stupid] aliens and SFX - they were actually quite menacing and I loved the alien noise...it was so alien that it sent a chill right down my spine. And then Tom Cruise beat a guy to death with a shovel [minus a million points for not showing it].
And, let it be known that I'm not rabidly anti-Tom Cruise. I was one of the co-developers of TomCruiseLand! He's fine @ doing what he does. And honestly, I don't even care to speculate on his personal life. It is what it is and is possibly more genuine than others may be projecting.
