Regardless of how it looked, it tasted delicious. It's such a simple dish that I'm not sure why I haven't made it previously. The bocconcini were mini, mini bocconcini and I love them. I'm not crazy about mozzarella generally [even the high-quality stuff I find quite bland and tasteless and yes, even occasionally poor in texture - too chewy], but the tiny ones [and there are tinier ones still called "pearls"] are exceptional. The basil was also extra special as it was nicked from the containers outside that do not belong to us. Mmmmm...stolen goods.

Day Two Hundred and Ninety-Nine - Tri Colore
As previously documented I am not a big fan of salads. You can also see that I continue to make rich, hearty, wintry soups all through the summer. This summer I have been especially disinterested in fresh vegetables as we no longer have a garden full of goodness and also, the Price Chopper sucks [again, as previously mentioned]. However, Joseph's boss brought us some tasty tomatoes from their garden and I thought I would do something special with them. So tonight I made a Caprese salad. Yes, it's kinda deconstructed as that's the way I cook - kinda sloppy. The Caprese salad tends to be a bit over-stylized - I've seen it in restaurants stacked up really high and precariously balanced. That's kinda difficult to enjoy - I like food that's a bit messy as then I don't feel bad about polishing it off.

Regardless of how it looked, it tasted delicious. It's such a simple dish that I'm not sure why I haven't made it previously. The bocconcini were mini, mini bocconcini and I love them. It looks wonderful! I'm sure it tasted great. I'm not a fan of composed salads...the first thing you have to do to eat it is deconstruct it anyway!
That sounds good. My favourite salad with fresh tomatos is cucumbers, tomatos, & feta cheese with greek dressing. I pretty much live on that in September.
We seem to have the hardest time finding decent tomatoes in Toronto. Farmer's markets maybe...but they sell out so quick!
