Day One Hundred and Sixty-Eight - The Measure Of A Woman

There are many units of measurement in this modern world - inches, feet, furlongs, farenheit, centimetres, litres [yes Americans, these are real things, not just crazy made-up Canadian words]...and so on. But what of something more cerebral, more heavy, more intellectual? Having been inspired by fellow thing-a-dayer Colette I decided to see how effective books are as a tool of measurement and tonight I measured myself in books. I am 58 books tall. These were mostly [and unsurprisingly] my fancy-schmancy art books from my undergrad education [see - they *are* useful for something Mum!], Joseph's less fancy [but no less expensive] science-y and anthropology-y textbooks and many other assorted hardcovers on topics ranging from opera to orangutans to woodworking. I used heavy books mainly because they are much easier to stack and were generally bigger if not thicker.

I'm not sure that books are the most effective tools for measurement. Colette was 78 books tall and she is four inches taller than me...and yes, I do realize that this is an imperfect system as everyone has their own books. It's special that way and maybe just a little magical [I mean, if it worked].

On a side note, I love my books. Even the books I haven't opened/read yet [yes, some of them are cling-filmed] - they are just fantastic. I love that I have books that I didn't know I had [yes, two photography/photojournalism books].
