I have a distractingly active mind. It never stops. It's really quite annoying. In the past I have done yoga and that was somewhat helpful - but I always found the end of the practice to be the most difficult part. I couldn't just lie there and relax and turn my mind off [though I did enjoy the pose - corpse]. I went to services at a Buddhist temple once and the meditation portion was incredibly difficult. I was envious of everyone around me and kept staring at them. In short - it wasn't terribly zen.
I've always wanted to remedy this situation...but - I'm usually either too lazy or too otherwise distracted. So tonight I meditated. I think I have become better at this. I used a dark room + candle to focus my mind and made my body comfortable [yes, I was lying down - I know it's not recommended for newbie meditators, but it worked well as I wasn't obsessing over my sucky posture]. I used a simple breathing technique which helped to clear my head.
I hope to do this again incorporating different techniques and purposes of meditation. Suggestions?
